Local buses to rural locations such as Chugchilán are a great experience. For just $2.50 you can share the 4 hour ride with friendly campesinos, chickens, pigs and sheep. Dirt and cobbled roads through gorgeous scenery make for a breathtaking ride!

Not quite up for the bus ride? We can help you locate a ride from Quito in a private jeep for $100. This way you have the freedom to stop for photographs and breathe the clean mountain air while stretching your legs. Remember, it is a 4 to 5 hour drive on rough roads through spectacular scenery.

Please let us know if YOU find a better price, but make sure the driver really knows where he or she is going. If your driver needs to spend the night at Black Sheep Inn, we will give him or her a 20% discount in our bunkroom. We know a reliable taxi driver in Latacunga who charges US$60 to bring you to or from Chugchilán, for up to 4 people. E-mail us and we will help you arrange transportation. If you hire a taxi from Latacunga, be sure that your driver really knows how far it is to Chugchilán, 3-4 hours each way.

	Two Daily Buses depart from Latacunga Bus Station - Terminal (buses depart Quito's Terminal heading south on the Pan American Highway to or through Latacunga every 15 minutes) Terminal Terrestre is located on the west side of the Pan American Highway, just south of the 5 de Junio Bridge. One bus, 'Transportes La Iliniza', departs Latacunga daily at 11:30 AM from the Terminal Terrestre (on Thursdays it leaves from Saquisilí) going the northern route through Sigchos (4 hours to Chugchilán). Get there an hour early to secure a seat. Second bus, ‘Transportes La Iliniza’, departs Latacunga daily at 12 NOON from the Terminal Terrestre. This bus travels the southern route, through Zumbahua (4 hours to Chugchilán).

Many buses leave Latacunga and pass Zumbahua (2 hours) with the final destination La Mana and Quevedo. From Zumbahua to Laguna Quilotoa it is 14 kilometers. From Quilotoa it's another 22 kilometers of rough road to Black Sheep Inn, about an hour drive. There is a more direct hike from Quilotoa along the crater rim and then through the canyon, about five hours. We recommend hiking with a guide or in a group. Consult a topographical map, guide book or hire a guide at Quilotoa to do the hike through the canyon.
Roof ride if the weather permits! The bus drives slowly on the back roads.
